Calendar Battle: February

Jim Carrey VS Lleyton Hewitt

Mariah Carey VS Jennifer Love Hewitt

Read the rules here

Ctrl-F, '---' & 'Enter' to skip this section.

Mariah Carey:-

Mariah’s one of the Pop Divas in the music industry. Since young, she’s gifted with extraordinary musical abilities. After singing backup for Brenda K. Starr, she got her breakthrough with Sony Music Entertainment. Her self-titled debut album, which was released in 1990, brought her to celebrity stardom as she had four #1 singles from the album. Since then, she came up with an amazing 13 other albums, with her famous albums ‘Butterfly’ (1997) and ‘Rainbow’ (1999) as well as her latest album ‘The Emancipation of Mimi' (2005). She sucks in acting though (Read: Glitter).

She will be 36-years old by March 27 this year.

Personally, I cannot appreciate her style of music. I will not be bias to her though just because I hate her music. She’s cute after all…and has tremendous plastic boobs to compete with other female celebrities and erect some men. Is her angelic voice enough to win?

Jennifer Love Hewitt:-

This Texas-born girl got involved with the entertainment industry ever since she was young too. At three, she sang “The Greatest Love of All’ at a livestock show. At five, she took up tap, jazz and ballet lessons which led her to joining the Texas Show Team…and at 10; she got involved with commercials and Disney’s “Kids Incorporated”. While she became famous in ‘Party of Five’ (1994) it was her role as ‘Julie James’ in ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ (1997) that made her a true international star. She then appeared in numerous other movies, which last I’ve seen her is in ‘Garfield’ (2004).

She is not only an actress, but a singer as well. She has three albums to her credit, her last album being ‘Barenaked’ (2002). She can sing, but not near ‘Diva’ status though.

She is born on February 21, 1979.

She sure has the looks and the legs. Thankfully she’s not as whiny and bitchy as other female celebrities. She even acted as Audrey Hepburn’…that’s how hot she is. She’s young and talented indeed…but will she be the ‘Butterfly’ or will she be the ‘Glitter’ in this battle?

Ready? Let’s go!

Mariah Carey:
With a tree trunk as the background, it gives the perceptive that the photo is natural. Carey looks quite innocent with her nice smile and the white sweater she is wearing. However, she looked a bit…fat. Especially her thighs…that size must be like a whole well-fed chicken. That line between her chests is quite an attention-grabber though.

Photo Style: 7/10
Looks & Pose: 6/10

Jennifer Love Hewitt:
With the dark background and the black dress (or was it?), the focus is truly on Hewitt herself. The lighting from the right side of the photo enhances her beautiful skin. Should she ask for money while she does that pose, chances are you would accept her request. Do I need to say what her attraction-factor is? Her very white nails kinda scare me though…her hands look like she’s turning into a zombie.

Photo Style: 7/10
Looks & Pose: 7/10

It was tough to choose between chicken thighs and zombie hands…but Hewitt prevails (6-1 3-6 7-6…sorry, wrong Hewitt) 14 to Carey's 13. While this isn’t her best photo, Jennifer Love Hewitt won me over with the pose…Carey’s smile helped a lot, but her unfortunate size made me think of Love more. So in short, Jennifer’s the ‘Butterfly’, Mariah’s the ‘Glitter’.

In about 3 and a 1/2 hours....

I will be going to Brisbane.

I can officially say: I'm ready.

48 hours ago I wasn't ready though. Actually missing home before I even left. Haha.

Events in the past 48 hours got me mentally prepared to go back there though.

See, I have a few critics. Those that look down on you. I will not say their names, but their assumptions were downright too much.

I believed I did good things to them, but my reward was fucked-up shit instead. Sad, but I get these kind of situation very often.

About damn time I've enough of being pushed around.

So with that, I'm eager to go back. I may not like Brisbane very much, but I have to get not one, but two items. My degree, and my respect.

Till then, wait till I've settled in Brisbane (at least a couple of days) and I will do a proper update. Next update will be current fav. entry "Calendar Battle: February".

*I'm also upset that Liverpool beat MU in the FA Cup 5th Round. Damn Crouch. And I saw Alan Smith's freaky injury. Broken leg and a dislocated knee. Ow.
** Oh, and the damn cockroach that hides at the living room decided to visit my room upstairs. Gah! It sure likes me.

My Valentine 2006

Oh, it's that time again,
When the town turns red,
When the street turns Eden,
Oh, the couples are loved.

Big pressure I am,
To find my Valentine,
Bit fussy I am,
To joke, rather date Vincent Valentine.

Why did such day exist I asked,
Instead I was told to read the History,
Why should I bother I said,
Instead I watched a love story.

Depression hits in,
Misery strikes out,
Don't be sad I said within,
My Valentine was with me throughout.

Her name was special,
Oh, I love her salsa,
Her taste cures my ail,
Oh, Sarawak Laksa!

Yes, I love her,
For she is red-hot,
Yes, I love the smell on her,
For her I found my pot.

I've been like gentlemen,
For I have her favourite choc and flowers,
I've been sure I'm like no men,
For I gave her ice Milo and parsleys.

Being pleased, she liked it,
For me, she asked if I want 'Hum',
Black Eyed Peas, I sang it,
For 'My Humps' became 'Mai Hum'.

When we touched,
I felt her bowl; naughty boy,
When we kissed,
I felt her heat; lovely joy.

And then it was over,
'Please pay up' she said,
A fee I was to cover,
Paiseh, I thought I've paid.

Sadly, in a memory's line,
I'm to leave my Laska; leaving cocaine,
Soon, in a few day's time,
I'm to miss my laska; leaving to Brisbane.

Ah Mike, 2006.

Dedicated to the tasty Sarawak Laksa. I'm hooked to it!

Thanks to Ivan for indirectly providing me the idea.
*Yes, most of the contents are made-up.
**No, I'm not depressed. Can't I be creative and have fun?

P/S: Feeling creative? Write me your version of this poem! Make sure your theme is about Valentine's and Laksa or any type of food you like. I'm no poet, and mine certainly isn't anywhere great amongst hardcore poets. So anything goes.

One year later: Nikon COOLPIX 5100

It was 365 days ago that I got myself my first and current digital camera, the Nikon COOLPIX 5100. Now, let’s see how this camera fares after a year of abuse.

The camera was imported from KL to Kuching for the Chinese New Year 2005 and also for my use in Brisbane (^.^).

Truly a standard-looking camera.

I wasn’t completely in love with it when I first had my hands on the COOLPIX camera, but I was surely satisfied that I didn’t have to bring my old Olympus camera to Brisbane and keeping poorly-taken photos of the city. Not to mention photo albums add unnecessary weight to my luggage.

Anyway, this digicam is basically your average, practical camera. With 5.1 Megapixels, 3x Optical Zoom, 4.5MB Internal Memory and 15 scene modes including movie mode…this is pretty much a point-and-shoot camera. Nothing fancy like Sony here.

Design wise, it is quite comfortable to your right hand. The curve on the left side of the COOLPIX camera assists your grip on the camera, hence having a more stable hand to shoot. If you have big, big hands though, chances are you might block the flash. This champagne-coloured camera is similar to the 4100 and the 3200. Meaning it has a ‘plastic’ look.

The power switch is a bit too near to the shutter-release button for my liking though. At times I accidently pressed 'off ' instead of the shutter-release button. Lost some rare pictures due to that.

At the back, the controls are easy to recognise. The mode dial, while definitely saves time to go to your preferred mode, wasn’t all that good though. Sometimes when you take the camera out, the dial mode would be in-between two modes. Of course on the LCD it would indicate that the dial mode is not in a proper position, but it would have been better if Nikon had some kind of a ‘lock-on’ function so that the dial mode would not twist that easily. Oh, the LCD size is eye-friendly.

Transferring pictures to the computer was a piece of cake. Simply plug in the USB to the computer (of course after installing the software la) and just click OK to transfer to your desired folder. Voila. I love it. I suppose most of digicams are as simple as that, but hey, this is my first digicam…I was converted from analogue camera leh.

I discovered only a few weaknesses of this camera throughout the year I’ve used it. For one, the macro zoom wasn’t good as the focus can be quite blurry. Another was the audio speaker's fairly weak.

Here are the addition things provided in the box:

From left: A proper manual, a quick-start manual, the installer and an instruction on taking care of…the batteries. In 16 different languages.Wow.

The Camera-PC USB wire and the battery charger

At the price of RM1588 (at the time) including the extras like 256MB SD Card, pouch and a small waist bag though, this camera was ideal for my needs. Photo printing in Subang Jaya was already disastrous to my wallet. What more Brisbane.

This camera was launched on 16 September 2004. The camera is no longer in production as Nikon has produced better compact cameras than the 5100. However, should you be looking for 2nd hand digicams or if shops are still selling it, I suggest the COOLPIX 5100. Only if you are looking for decent camera.

Oh, I took a picture of some flower at the garden. After six attempts, I decided to keep this:

The first picture I’ve kept till this day. Not that good, but hey…I like la

One year later, at almost the same spot:

Lacking some sunshine.

Pointless note: I'm currently using a 128 MB SD Card as my brother misplaced the 256MB. Shucks.

Red is the new green?

Not too long ago, my mom bought this curry paste:

My mom’s pretty mad about the GoodMum™ brand. She got curious with what Borneo Curry Paste taste like…she assumed it was to be quite a Thai-style green curry, at least based on the picture la.

It turned out like this:

Serious, I didn’t photoshop the colour. It’s really red. Just like most curries. W00T!

P/S: Despite the colour, it tastes pretty good. Thinking of bringing this over to Brisbane and see ang mo face turn 'green'.
